WATER
—JOHN 7:37-38 37Now
on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried,
saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. 38He that
believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, from within him shall flow rivers
of living water.
—REVELATION 22:17 17And
the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And he that heareth, let him say, Come. And
he that is athirst, let him come: he that will, let him take the water of life
freely.

—DEUTERONOMY 8:11-20
11Beware lest thou forget Jehovah thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and
his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command thee this day: 12lest, when
thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;
13and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is
multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied; 14then thy heart be lifted up,
and thou forget Jehovah thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of
Egypt, out of the house of bondage; 15who led thee through the great and
terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty
ground where was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of
flint; 16who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not;
that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy
latter end: 17and lest thou say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand
hath gotten me this wealth. 18But thou shalt remember Jehovah thy God, for it is
he that giveth thee power to get wealth; that he may establish his covenant
which he sware unto thy fathers, as at this day. 19And it shall be, if thou
shalt forget Jehovah thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and
worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish. 20As
the nations that Jehovah maketh to perish before you, so shall ye perish;
because ye would not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah your God.
—PSALM 19:10-11. 10More to
be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey
and the droppings of the honeycomb. 11Moreover by them is thy servant warned:
In keeping them there is great reward.
—PSALM 30:6-7 6As
for me, I said in my prosperity, I shall never be moved. 7Thou,
Jehovah, of thy favor hadst made my mountain to stand strong: Thou didst hide
thy face; I was troubled.
—PSALM 39:6 6Surely
every man walketh in a vain show; Surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth
up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.
—PSALM 39:11 11When
thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, Thou makest his beauty to
consume away like a moth: Surely every man is vanity.
—PSALM 49:5-12 5Wherefore
should I fear in the days of evil, When iniquity at my heels compasseth me
about? 6They that trust in their wealth, And boast themselves in the
multitude of their riches; 7None of them can by any means
redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him 8(For the
redemption of their life is costly, And it faileth for ever), 9That
he should still live alway, That he should not see corruption. 10For
he shall see it. Wise men die; The fool and the brutish alike perish, And leave
their wealth to others. 11Their inward thought is, that their
houses shall continue for ever, And their dwelling-places to all
generations; They call their lands after their own names. 12But man
being in honor abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
– PSALM 49:16-20 16Be
not thou afraid when one is made rich, When the glory of his house is
increased. 17For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away; His
glory shall not descend after him. 18Though while he lived he
blessed his soul (And men praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself), 19he
shall go to the generation of his fathers; They shall never see the light.
20Man that is in honor, and understandeth not, Is like the beasts that
perish.
—PSALM 52:7 7Lo,
this is the man that made not God his strength, But trusted in the abundance of
his riches, And strengthened himself in his wickedness.
—PROVERBS 14:31 31he
that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker; But he that hath mercy on the
needy honoreth him.
—MATTHEW 6:19-24 19Lay
not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and
where thieves break through and steal: 20but lay up for yourselves
treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves
do not break through nor steal: 21for where thy treasure is, there
will thy heart be also. 22The lamp of the body is the eye: if
therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23But
if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the
light that is in thee be darkness, how great is the darkness! 24No
man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other;
or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and
mammon.
—MATTHEW 19:21-24. 21Jesus
said unto him, If thou wouldest be perfect, go, sell that which thou hast, and
give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
22But when the young man heard the saying, he went away sorrowful;
for he was one that had great possessions. 23And Jesus said unto his
disciples, Verily I say unto you, It is hard for a rich man to enter into the
kingdom of heaven. 24And again I say unto you, It is easier for a
camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the
kingdom of God.
—MARK 4:19 19and
the cares of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other
things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
—LUKE 12:15-21 15And
he said unto them, Take heed, and keep yourselves from all covetousness: for a
man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
16And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain
rich man brought forth plentifully: 17and he reasoned within himself,
saying, What shall I do, because I have not where to bestow my fruits? 18And
he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there
will I bestow all my grain and my goods. 19And I will say to my soul,
Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink,
be merry. 20But God said unto him, Thou foolish one, this night is
thy soul required of thee; and the things which thou hast prepared, whose shall
they be? 21So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not
rich toward God.
—LUKE 16:9-13 9And
I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends by means of the mammon of
unrighteousness; that, when it shall fail, they may receive you into the eternal
tabernacles. 10he that is faithful in a very little is faithful also
in much: and he that is unrighteous in a very little is unrighteous also in
much. 11If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous
mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? 12And
if ye have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that
which is your own? 13No servant can serve two masters: for either he
will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise
the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
—ACTS 5:4. 4While
it remained, did it not remain thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in
thy power? How is it that thou hast conceived this thing in thy heart? thou has
not lied unto men, but unto God.
—ACTS 20:35 35In
all things I gave you an example, that so laboring ye ought to help the weak,
and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, It is more
blessed to give than to receive.
—1 CORINTHIANS 5:11 11but
as it is, I wrote unto you not to keep company, if any man that is named a
brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a
drunkard, or an extortioner; with such a one no, not to eat.
—COLOSSIANS 3:5 5Put
to death therefore your members which are upon the earth: fornication,
uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry;
—1 TIMOTHY 6:6-10 6But
godliness with contentment is great gain: 7for we brought nothing
into the world, for neither can we carry anything out; 8but having
food and covering we shall be therewith content. 9But they that are
minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and
hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition. 10For
the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil: which some reaching after have
been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many
sorrows.
—JAMES
1:9-11 9But let the brother of low degree glory in his high estate:
10and the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the
grass he shall pass away. 11For the sun ariseth with the scorching
wind, and withereth the grass: and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of
the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his goings.
—JAMES 2:1-7 1My
brethren, hold not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory,
with respect of persons. 2For if there come into your synagogue a man
with a gold ring, in fine clothing, and there come in also a poor man in vile
clothing; 3and ye have regard to him that weareth the fine clothing,
and say, Sit thou here in a good place; and ye say to the poor man, Stand thou
there, or sit under my footstool; 4Do ye not make distinctions among
yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? 5Hearken, my
beloved brethren; did not God choose them that are poor as to the world to be
rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to them that love him?
6But ye have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you,
and themselves drag you before the judgment-seats? 7Do not they
blaspheme the honorable name by which ye are called?
—JAMES 5:1-6 1Come
now, ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you. 2Your
riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. 3Your gold
and your silver are rusted; and their rust shall be for a testimony against you,
and shall eat your flesh as fire. Ye have laid up your treasure in the last
days. 4Behold, the hire of the laborers who mowed your fields, which
is of you kept back by fraud, crieth out: and the cries of them that reaped have
entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. 5Ye have lived
delicately on the earth, and taken your pleasure; ye have nourished your hearts
in a day of slaughter. 6Ye have condemned, ye have killed the
righteous one; he doth not resist you.
—1 JOHN 3:16-18 16Hereby
know we love, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our
lives for the brethren. 17But whoso hath the world’s goods, and
beholdeth his brother in need, and shutteth up his compassion from him, how doth
the love of God abide in him? 18My Little children, let us not
love in word, neither with the tongue; but in deed and truth.
WEARINESS

straight paths for your feet, that that which is lame be not turned out of the

WICKED MEN
—ECCLESIASTES 8:12-14
12Though a sinner do evil a hundred times, and prolong his days,
yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, that fear
before him: 13but it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall
he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not
before God. 14There is a vanity which is done upon the earth, that
there are righteous men unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the
wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happeneth according to the work
of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.

1:7 7The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge; But
the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.
—ECCLESIASTES 9:13-18
13I have also seen wisdom under the sun on this wise, and it seemed great
unto me: 14There was a little city, and few men within it; and there
came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against
it. 15Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom
delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man. 16Then
said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is
despised, and his words are not heard. 17The words of the wise heard
in quiet are better than the cry of him that ruleth among fools. 18Wisdom
is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroyeth much good.
—1
CORINTHIANS 3:18-23 18Let no man deceive himself. If any man
thinketh that he is wise among you in this world, let him become a fool, that he
may become wise. 19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with
God. For it is written, he that taketh the wise in their craftiness: 20and
again, The Lord knoweth the reasonings of the wise that they are vain. 21Wherefore
let no one glory in men. For all things are yours; 22whether Paul, or
Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or
things to come; all are yours; 23and ye are Christ’s; and Christ is
God’s.

there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is
called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.
37And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died:
whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber. 38And
forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was
there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay
to come to them. 39Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was
come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him
weeping, and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was
with them. 40But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and
prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened
her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up. 41And he gave her
his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows,
presented her alive.

all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the broad place that

of the law of Moses, which Jehovah had commanded to Israel. 2And Ezra
the priest brought the law before the assembly, both men and women, and all that
could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month. 3And
he read therein before the broad place that was before the water gate from early
morning until midday, in the presence of
the men and the women, and of those that could understand; and the ears of all
the people were attentive unto the book of the law. 4And Ezra
the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and
beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Uriah, and Hilkiah, and
Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and
Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam. 5And
Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people (for he was above all the
people); and when he opened it, all the people stood up:

he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and he entered, as his custom
was, into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17And
there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And he opened the
book, and found the place where it was written, 18 The
Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to
the poor: He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovering of
sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised, 19To
proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. 20And he closed the book,
and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down: and the eyes of all in the
synagogue were fastened on him. 21And he began to say unto them,

—HEBREWS 6:10-12 10for
God is not unrighteous to forget your work and the love which ye showed toward
his name, in that ye ministered unto the saints, and still do minister. 11And
we desire that each one of you may show the same diligence unto the fulness of

they that are after the flesh mind the things of the flesh; but they that are
after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6For the mind of the flesh
is death; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace: 7because the
mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of
God, neither indeed can it be: 8and they that are in the flesh cannot
please God. 9But ye are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if so be
that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. But if any man hath not the Spirit of

the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are
foolishness unto him; and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually

—1 CORINTHIANS 3:1-4 1And
I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, as
unto babes in Christ. 2I fed you with milk, not with meat; for ye
were not yet able to bear it: nay, not even now are ye able; 3for
ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you jealousy and strife, are ye
not carnal, and do ye not walk after the manner of men? 4For when one
saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not men?

14Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers: for what fellowship have
righteousness and iniquity? or what communion hath light with darkness? 15And
what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what portion hath a believer with an
unbeliever? 16And what agreement hath a
temple of God with idols? for we are a temple of
the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I
will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17Wherefore Come ye
out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, And touch no unclean
thing; And I will receive you,
—GALATIANS
4:3-11 3So we also, when we were children, were held in bondage
under the rudiments of the world: 4but when the fulness of the time
came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5that
he might redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption
of sons. 6And because ye are sons, God sent forth the Spirit of his
Son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 7So that thou art no
longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God. 8Howbeit
at that time, not knowing God, ye were in bondage to them that by nature are no
gods: 9but now that ye have come to know God, or rather to be known
by God, how turn ye back again to the weak and beggarly rudiments, whereunto ye
desire to be in bondage over again? 10Ye observe days, and months,
and seasons, and years. 11I am afraid of you, lest by any means I
have bestowed labor upon you in vain.

2:1-2 1And you did he make alive, when ye were dead through

3:1-3 1If then ye were raised together with Christ,

11:13-16 13These all died in faith, not having received the
promises, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having confessed
that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. 14For they that
say such things make it manifest that they are seeking after a country of their
own. 15And if indeed they had been mindful of that country
from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return. 16But
now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly: wherefore God is
not ashamed of them, to be called their God; for he hath prepared for them a
city.

2:14-26 14What doth it profit, my brethren, if a man say he hath
faith, but have not works? can that faith save him? 15If a brother or
sister be naked and in lack of daily food, 16and one of you say unto
them, Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled; and yet ye give them not the things
needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17Even so faith, if it have
not works, is dead in itself. 18Yea, a man will say, Thou hast faith,
and I have works: show me thy faith apart from thy works, and I by my
works will show thee my faith. 19Thou believest that God is
one; thou doest well: the demons also believe, and shudder. 20But
wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is barren? 21Was
not Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son
upon the altar? 22Thou seest that faith wrought with his works, and
by works was faith made perfect; 23and the scripture was fulfilled
which saith, And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for
righteousness; and he was called the friend of God. 24Ye see that by
works a man is justified, and not only by faith. 25And in like manner
was not also Rahab the harlot justified by works, in that she received the
messengers, and sent them out another way? 26For as the body apart
from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.
—JAMES
4:1-4 1Whence come wars and whence come fightings
among you? come they not hence, even of your pleasures that war in
your members? 2Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and covet, and cannot
obtain: ye fight and war; ye have not, because ye ask not. 3Ye ask,
and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may spend it in your
pleasures. 4Ye adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the
world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore would be a friend of the world
maketh himself an enemy of God.

PETER 2:20-22 20For if, after they have escaped the defilements of
the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are
again entangled therein and overcome, the last state is become worse with them
than the first. 21For it were better for them not to have known the
way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy
commandment delivered unto them. 22It has happened unto them
according to the true proverb, The dog turning to his own vomit again, and the
sow that had washed to wallowing in the mire.

JOHN 2:15-17 15Love not the world, neither the things that are in
the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the
eyes and the vain glory of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the
will of God abideth for ever.

37:7-8 7Rest in Jehovah, and wait patiently for him: Fret not
thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, Because of the man who
bringeth wicked devices to pass. 8Cease from anger, and forsake
wrath: Fret not thyself, it tendeth only to evil-doing.
—MATTHEW 6:25-34 25Therefore
I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye
shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more
than the food, and the body than the raiment? 26Behold the birds of
the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and
your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value then they?
27And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto the measure of
his life? 28And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the
lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29yet
I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of
these. 30But if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which
to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more
clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31Be not therefore anxious,
saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be
clothed? 32For after all these things do the Gentiles seek; for your
heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33But
seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be
added unto you. 34Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the
morrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground

early, and worshipped before Jehovah, and returned, and came to their house to

—MICAH 6:6-8. 6Wherewith
shall I come before Jehovah, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come
before him with burnt-offerings, with calves a year old? 7will
Jehovah be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of
rivers of oil? shall I give my first-born for my transgression, the fruit of my
body for the sin of my soul? 8he hath showed thee, O man, what is

kindness, and to walk humbly with thy God?

days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thy heart, and in the sight of thine
