Shine His Light and Share His Word

The purpose of the Pikes Peak Church of Christ youth ministry is to Shine His Light and Share His Word by helping our teens BECOME, CONNECT and SERVE.

  • Through classes, devotionals, worship, and other teaching opportunities we hope to help our teens BECOME the Christian young people God wants them to be.
  • Through activities, recreation and entertainment opportunities we hope to help our teens CONNECT with each other as friends and, more importantly, as brothers and sisters in Christ.
  • Through service projects we hope to provide the opportunity to SERVE so that our young people will experience the importance of the servant heart demonstrated by our Lord.

Youth Activities

The youth group here at the Pikes Peak congregation is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Everybody is very friendly, we're like one big family. When I moved here I was accepted right away without any hesitation. It's like a breath of fresh air if you come from a place with a practically non-existent youth group.

We do a lot of things together. On the first and third Saturdays of each month there is a devotional at somebody's house or at the church building. At the devos we always sing, which is my favorite part, and we listen to the person giving the actual devo.

We usually eat and it's a great time to talk. Afterwards we usually go outside and play football or something like that.

At least once a month there is a youth group activity, and those are really good too. They are usually on a Sunday afternoon, and we do a lot of different things. We go bowling, roller skating, we've had movie nights, and there was a hayride once. These are a really good chance to just go and hang out and to better bond.

Everybody has always told me that I should hold on to my friends from the youth group because those are the people who will stay with you forever. I honestly believe that we will all stay in touch even after we're all gone,

and we'll become even better friends as time goes by. For me personally, I know that I can count on anyone from the youth group if I ever need help with anything, and that's the way it should be.

Our youth take an active role in worship

-
Help each young man reach his potential for leading the congregation's worship
-- Start Young!! "The Blue-Card Boys" ages 4 - 11 collect visitor cards at the end of each service
-- Young men in Christ read the scriptures, lead prayer, serve the Lord's Supper and lead the singing in our worship (Parents help their children prepare for their role in worship and to dress appropriately.)
-- Special classes on leading worship help our young men learn needed skills
- Our youth group sit together during worship services
-- They build close bonds of friendship and fellowship by worshiping together
-- The older teens set a positive example for the younger teens

Kamp Koinonia

Summer is a great time of the year. No school, camping, vacation time - you know summer is my favorite time of year. One great thing about summer is Kamp Koinonia. That's the best time of all.

Just as soon as you check into camp there is a welcome feeling. Everything seems to shout, "I'm so glad you're here!" And all during that glorious week, there is never a dull moment. Every day the fun grows. Sports, classes, great singing and great friends make the week slip by before you know it.

One of the most important things about Kamp Koinonia is the new friendships that are formed and the old friendships that are strengthened. The Pikes Peak youth group really comes together in that week. Everyone gets to know each other so much better and we connect on a deeper, spiritual level. And it's not just our own group that feels this way. Teens from all over Colorado come to camp and find a place in our hearts.

The most important friendship that grows is our relationship with God. Every morning we have a time to read our Bibles, pray, or just think. The classes feature great topics. Every year we focus on a specific verse for the entire week.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm going back to Kamp Koinonia this year!
